The Name Game

It’s nice to celebrate the Christmas Season, visiting family and friends and overindulging. It’s easy to go overboard; eating too much; drinking too much; spending too much money. Today for instance, while watching football, I decided I would cut back on the imbibing and only take a drink when the announcers would say the name of New England’s leading rusher, BenJarvus Green-Ellis. It seemed like a good idea at the time. As it turned out he carried the ball 19 times and his team, (my team) the Patriots, won the game 34-3. I was feeling pretty-good so I thought I would watch the Canada-Russia junior hockey game. There’s a player on the Canadian juniors named Ryan Ellis from the Windsor Spitfires. So I thought why not continue my lucky streak and take a sip of wine every time the announcers mentioned Ryan Ellis by name. Green-Ellis, Ryan Ellis, once again, sounded like a good idea at the time and besides, what were the chances Ryan Ellis was as good at hockey as Green-Ellis was at football. It’s not like I had to get up and go to work the next day or anything. Canada won 5-3. Ellis scored and got lots of ice time. Who knew? There’s another game on now, Finland versus the United States. Lucky for me there is no one named Ellis on either team. I’m also out of wine. Good night.
