Black Swan Down

The Black Swan stars Natalie Portman in the role of the swan queen. She is perfect for the innocent white swan role but has difficulty with the role’s alter ego, the black swan. Totally stressed out about her first lead in a ballet, sexually repressed and having to deal with a mother who hovers over her like a Black Hawk (birds of a feather) helicopter, she starts losing it. So the usual things that happen when one begins to lose their mind manifest themselves; seeing things; depression; mood swings; growing feathers, webbed feet and really bad hang nails. You know your typical DSM symptoms.

She’s all over the sexually repressed piece so much so that me thinks the director has a fixation not only with swans but with cats as well or at least an affectionate word used to address said cats. (also a highly offensive term for the female body part that rhymes with mulva) I draw the line people.

Above all else, Natalie Portman does an exceptional job as both swans and for this reason the movie is worth the ten bucks, this and the scene where the former lead ballerina played by Winona Ryder, rearranges her own face. Totally didn’t see that coming. That’s gonna leave a mark.

If you are in the mood for a really good movie then you must see The King’s Speech. Colin Firth plays King George the VI and must make a wartime speech to the people of England and the Commonwealth. The problem is he is a stutterer. He enlists the help of a speech therapist played by Geoffrey Rush to assist him with overcoming his impediment. This movie has everything; entertainment; history; some very funny lines; and two of the best actors in the business. I see an Oscar sweep, picture; actor; supporting actor. The movie is grr rrr rrr rrr rrr eat! This is not a stutter. I am simply quoting Tony the Tiger.
