Yes, We have No Bananas

Decision Points, a memoir written by George W. Bush, has just recently hit the bookstore shelves. Since the books release, the former President has been making appearances promoting his published work on several talk shows including Oprah and the Today Show. Some Canadian readers have already noticed that Canada, while sharing the longest undefended border in the world with the big bad US of A, (and I say this with all due respect as a big bad US of A citizen) there is barely a mention of Canada to be found in the book. So the question posed is should Canada be offended?

Forgive me if I sound harsh but why would Canadians even care or give this a second thought? So Canada wasn't mentioned. Can we blame Bush for this? In his defence, one would be hard pressed to find a kind written word in any newspaper; magazine; periodical or post regarding George W. Bush in the past eight years. Even after leaving the White House for civilian life the criticisms were still flying full force. Who could blame him for such an oversight if indeed it was an oversight?

Does this snub mean Bush doesn’t care about this country? Or could it be Bush’s years in the Oval Office were filled with not one but two foreign wars; a North Korean nuclear threat; terrorists; a tanking economy; Hurricane Katrina; financial bailouts; and a whole lot of other pressing presidential issues. How lucky was he to have a neighbour to the north who posed no real problems for his presidency. But like a good friend was there if need be.

So Canada didn’t get mentioned. Boo freaking hoo. Canadians will get over it just in time to go cross border shopping by black Friday. Just don’t you try getting a piece of fruit by one of those border patrols; fire arms maybe but keep those bananas behind.
