The Evil of the Thriller

Happy Halloween everyone. Seems there are loads of scary movies airing on the tube this Hallows evening. There's The Exorcist if you're into all that projectile vomiting. It's also got more head spinning than we've seen in this election year and that's a lot. The Sixth Sense is showing with yet more vomiting. The first scary movie I ever saw was Alfred Hitchcock`s Psycho. No vomiting just a really scary shower scene involving a rather large kitchen knife and some really creepy music. On a lighter note, in later years my friends affectionately referred to me as Psycho Betty. Good times.

Remember The Shining. The 1980`s thriller starred Jack Nicholson as a writer who takes an off season job as a caretaker in an isolated hotel. A snowstorm leaves him, his wife and son snowbound and madness ensues. It was set in Maine but take away the snow and it could easily have been set in Toronto; today; midtown; Bayview Ave; 4th floor. Life imitating art you say?

For the first time ever no trick or treaters came a calling. Condo dwellers must be the candy Nazis. No treats for you! This is our first fall here in Toronto and it appears there will be no leave raking; gutter cleaning; pool closing; or doling out of candy. Oh God I hope they celebrate Christmas in condos? They do don’t they?
