My entire life I have been told what to do. As I child it was, "Children should be seen and not heard." As a teenager I was told on more than one occasion to "act my age." And now I am learning "How not to act old." Sure you could wear hip clothes; colour your gray hair (if you even have hair) and exercise daily to not look old but just how does one go about not acting old? (without looking stupid that is)
There are some things I will never do for the sake of appearances (i.e. to look younger). For starters, you will never see me in a thong. You're welcome and sorry for the visual but I draw the line on anything that will have me picking at my ass more than tennis great Rafa Nadal. Forget about the age old adage "with age comes wisdom". Younger people will ask for an elder’s advice just because they think they've been around the block. This could go horribly wrong. A new mother might ask how to keep their baby from crying constantly while teething. An older person might say, "Try shaking them." Hey, worked in their day. It was either that or the use of an opiate like paregoric which was rubbed on the gums. It was creamy crack for babies.
Sports might be a good way to not appear to be old. But word of caution, when watching football be sure you know the terms. If the quarterback is in the shotgun it doesn't mean he has to get married because of an unplanned pregnancy. Same goes for hockey. If a player is penalized with a double minor he will not be given under aged twins. Or if caught hooking he is definitely not making a rug. Maybe we better steer clear of sports. To be continued..................
