All's Well In Indian Wells

So I’ve been away for a little R & R, Rafa and Roger (Nadal & Federer) in Indian Wells, California. And since arriving here in the desert I can’t help but think of those words Dorothy spoke once she landed in Oz only my version goes something like this, “I’ve got a feeling I’m not in Toronto anymore.” The city is surrounded by mountains and there are on average 354 days of sunshine and less than 6 inches of rain annually. Somebody pinch me! This place is beautiful and clean and friendly. There is a strange phenomenon happening here the likes of which I have not seen in months. People actually make eye contact; speak; smile and seem genuinely interested in each other. The place would be damn near perfect if not for the fact that Indian Wells has the second highest percentage of registered Republicans of any cities in California, with 65.1% of its 3,027 registered voters registered as Republicans. We can’t all be perfect.

There are no ugly people here either. When asked why he participates in the Indian Wells Tennis Tournament each year, Andy Roddick won over the crowd when he responded, “Look around. Everyone here is good-looking.” Guess that includes me too. (Well, this week anyway)

I look forward to telling you all about my week; my tennis clinic and how it was divided up into two groups- the worthy group - those who can play; and the remedial group- those who think they can play; my attempt at winning a high-speed serve contest; (I actually recorded a 43 mph serve but it was way faster in kilometres!)and loads of other happenings. Until then.
